Do NBA players need vaccinations?
The NBA treats vaccinated and unvaccinated players differently, but player vaccination is encouraged. As long as the fully vaccinated player doesn’t show COVID-19 symptoms, they don’t need to quarantine if a close contact tests positive.
Anti-vaccine people must be tested every day they practise or travel, and on game days, they may be tested again. Unvaccinated players should stay away from coronavirus-positive players and enter quarantine. Unvaccinated players may not get COVID-19, but being quarantined for contact tracing could keep them out for a week and miss games.

Vaccinated coaches, referees, and player-facing staff are needed.
As for making NBA players get vaccinated, an agreement with the Players Association would be needed, according to NBA spokesman Mike Bass. “These are suggestions from the NBA, but the players’ union has said no to any vaccination requirements.”
Bass added on Wednesday that “any player who chooses not to comply with local vaccination requirements will not be paid for games that he misses.”
How do local laws affect NBA teams?
Local health officials can still set rules, even if the NBA doesn’t require players to get vaccinated. A COVID-19 vaccine must be shown for people over 12 years old in New York City in order to enter indoor entertainment events, such as sports games.
Inside events in San Francisco require people over 12 to be fully vaccinated. Those rules don’t apply to visiting NBA players, though, the league told teams. According to the Associated Press, only the New York Knicks have confirmed that all of their players are fully vaccinated.
Any players postponing vaccination?
The NBA said that 90% of its players are vaccinated, but Irving, Andrew Wiggins of the Golden State Warriors, and Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards are active examples of star players who have not been vaccinated.
The NBA turned down Wiggins’ request for a religious exemption last week, which means the 26-year-old might have to miss all of the Warriors’ home games this year. Beal, who was not allowed to compete in the Tokyo Olympics because of a positive coronavirus test, told reporters on Monday that he did not want to get a COVID-19 vaccine for “personal reasons.”
