The Big Bang Theory’ alum took to social media on December 15 to share a shocking new message that revealed she would not be returning to host the hit game show.

On December 15, Mayim Bialik, 48, left Jeopardy! after almost a year as a permanent host. The TV star announced the sad news to her millions of followers on social media. “As the holiday break begins in Hollywood, I have some Jeopardy! news,” she wrote. “Sony has informed me that I will no longer host syndicated Jeopardy!”
The actress thanked the fan-favorite series’ co-host, Ken Jennings. Mayim said, “I am incredibly honored to have been nominated for a primetime Emmy for hosting this year and I am deeply grateful to have been a part of the Jeopardy! family. She concluded by thanking several groups for their Jeopardy! participation. “For all of you who have supported me through this incredible journey and to the fans, contestants, writers, staff and crew of America’s Favorite Quiz Show, thank you,” she wrote.

After Mayim announced it, many admirers reacted on social media. “So Mayim didn’t decide? This is intriguing. Will read more,” a fan tweeted. Another fan said, “Mayim Bialik is a gem—compassionate, talented, and smart. Sony was fortunate to host Jeopardy, earning an Emmy nomination. I’m eager to watch her next move.”

Mayim’s departure surprised many because her Sony contract was still active, reported PEOPLE. The actress joined the show when Alex Trebek died in 2020. She and Ken were announced as co-hosts in 2021. Mayim, a longtime Jeopardy! enthusiast, told ET in March 2022 that she wanted to host permanently. “I would love that,” she said. “I like to say I’ve lived season-to-season since I was 13.” She and Ken became permanent hosts in July 2022, alternating based on availability.

Many celebrities hosted after Alex’s death three years ago. During that time, Katie Couric, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Aaron Rodgers, Anderson Cooper, and others hosted. Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown, a mental health podcast, is now available to fans after her time on the game show ended.
