Steamboat Winter Carnival 

Part winter fair, part rodeo, the Steamboat Winter Carnival in Colorado is a lot of fun. Magazine says there are horse-drawn shovel races and ski races where skiers hold on to a lasso held by a cowboy on horses. The website for Springboat Springs says the event will take place from February 9th to 13th.

Stowe Winter Carnival

This carnival happens every year in Stowe, Vermont. It has more than 20 games for people of all ages. The magazine says that families can enjoy classic winter sports such as ice hockey games, downhill ski races, a “snow volleyball” tournament, and “snow golf.”

The webpage for Stowe, Vermont says the carnival will take place from January 20th to 23rd.

Ouray Ice Climbing Festival

The biggest ice climbing festival in the country takes place every January in Ouray, Colorado. The Uncompahgre Gorge is lined with huge walls of blue ice for the event. The magazine says that the event also has clinics, presentations, films, climbing competitions, and a gear expo.

The festival will take place from January 20th to January 23rd, according to the Ouray Ice Park website. All money made during the festival will go toward running the Ouray Ice Park.

The magazine says that Maryland’s Plunge Fest in Annapolis brings in more than 25,000 plungers and onlookers every year to the Chesapeake Bay to raise money for the Special Olympics Maryland.

Plunge Maryland says that the Polar Bear Plunge is an important part of Maryland’s past. Plungers have jumped into the cold water of the Chesapeake Bay for over 25,000 years.

The event will happen in real life and online from February 3–5.

Saint Paul Winter Carnival 

Travel + Leisure says that the Saint Paul Winter Carnival is the oldest and biggest winter festival in the United States. It takes place in one of the coldest cities in the country, St. Paul, Minnesota. People come from all over the country to see the fair, which is famous for its huge ice castle.

This year’s Saint Paul Winter Festival will take place from January 28 to February 6.

Fire & Ice Winterfest

The magazine says that Lava Hot Springs, Idaho is known for its natural hot springs, which are a big part of this winter event. At the end of the event, there is a race through downtown from one hot spring to the next. People who come can also see the Polar Float Parade, where everyone is welcome to wear funny outfits and float down the Portneuf River.

The Fire & Ice website says the event will take place on February 4 and 5.

Saranac Lake Winter Carnival

The magazine says that the winter event in Saranac Lake, New York, has been going on for the longest time in the eastern U.S. People can enjoy winter sports like ice skating and Nordic skiing, as well as unique activities like ultimate arctic frisbee and a women’s skillet throw.

The webpage for the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival says that the 2022 carnival will have a “80s” theme and run from February 4th to 13th.

Oregon WinterFest

One of the biggest winter events in the state is Bend’s WinterFest. The magazine says that the event celebrates all that Oregon has to offer in the winter by having an outdoor obstacle course that is tough, activities for kids put together by the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, artisan fire pits, ice sculptures, and a wine walk.
