‘The Masked Singer’ Season 10 Runner-Up Is Donut: How the Show Helped Him in ‘Grieving’ His Late Wife
The Donut, who came in second place to Cow, touched our hearts with his emotional finale performance for his late wife.
Cow won season 10 of The Masked Singer over Donut. John Schneider of The Dukes of Hazzard was revealed as The Donut. John performed a moving version of Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful” during the December 20 finale. Hollywood Life exclusively spoke John about commemorating his late wife Alicia Allain on the show.
I think folks have liked the Donut and the song. I’m pleased to have sang the songs on the show and be the poster child—or Donut—for mourning folks, the 63-year-old remarked. No, I never wanted it. Look, no matter how down you are, you must seize an opportunity and turn it into a plus for other grieving people. I think The Masked Singer, the cast, and the producers could not have hoped for anything better. Timing was excellent. Perfect opportunity.”
John was nervous to sing “You Are So Beautiful” until he did. He said, “I was afraid of that song until I sang it and something opened up in me.” I believe. I’m a Christian, and I think God saw me sing the song and made it mine. I believe I did. I think I own the song, which I enjoy. I hope to sing the tune. I know Alicia looked down and said, ‘Thumbs up, baby.
Smallville’s alum felt “so honored” to play that song for his late wife. “As a singer who just released his 26th album, that was my shining moment,” he remarked.
John lost his wife Alicia to breast cancer in February 2023 after 4 years. The Masked Singer has helped the actor and singer cope with his devastating loss, he said.
“When you grieve, you hide away or do it publicly,” he remarked. Knowing your pain is helping others is healing. You can use your terrible agony for good. Personally, I think God is engaged. How can God not help turn a bad thing good?
“The Bible says, ‘Blessed are those who grieve for they will be comforted.’” I’ll explain. Backstage at The Masked Singer, the few individuals who realized it was me, and watching the judges’ response healed and comforted me. It greatly assisted my mourning. Grieving persists. It will always be with us. Conversation strengthens us even more. I had a tremendous opportunity.” In spring 2024, The Masked Singer will return for season 11.
